Referee Requirements

Any individual interested in being a VOB Club Referee must be U13 or older and must participate in the VOB Sponsored Training Course.  The course is offered every winter. A club referee will be trained to run internal VOB club and home inter-league games only. Contact VP of Operations for Training Program details.

Referee Guidelines - Game procedure
  • Be Prompt, Active and interested. Report to the field before game time.
  • Field alignment and weekly schedule will be posted on the board at the Snack Shed.
  • Fill out the Referee Game cards - CLEAR & COMPLETE. They are available each week at the snack shed.
  • Introduce Yourself to the coaches - Take Control
  • Line up Each team prior to game to check for proper equipment
  • Use Your Whistle
  • Mistakes are fine but Know the rules.
  • No Offside for Intramural games unless hanging in the goal box.
  • Control the Game Conduct - No One Hurt.
  • No Slide Tackles
  • Sportsmanship Grading - Using a scale from 1-10 where 10 is the best, report score on game card
  • reporting scores - Report all final scores on Game card and place card in box at snack shed at game completion
Referee Guidelines - General
  • Game Time Requirements
    • 4V4 Intramural - Four 12 minute quarters
    • 6V6 U-8 Interleague - Two 25 minute halves
    • All other interleague - Two 30 minute halves
  • Referee Schedule/Game Assignment - Games are assigned for each week by the referee coordinator. You May not change assignments on your own. You may arrange for a substitute referee but it must first be cleared with the referee coordinator.
  • Sportsmanship Grading - Using a scale from 1-10 where 10 is the best.
    Factors to Consider: Appearance, Timeliness, Coach/Parent/Player Behavior
    Do Not Take abuse from coaches or parents. Report ALL Abusive behavior on your game card or contact Referee Coordinator Directly.
  • Slide Tackling
    U-8s on the 6V6 field
    • First intentional Slide Tackle is a Yellow Card
    • Second intentional Slide Tackle is a Yellow Card
    • Third intentional Slide Tackle is a Red Card - Write the player's name on the back of the game card and call refereee coordinator following the game
    U-9s and above
    • First intentional Slide Tackle is a Yellow Card
    • Second intentional Slide Tackle is a Red Card - Write the player's name on the back of the game card and call refereee coordinator following the game
